Cops drink, dance inside police station in Jharkhand; 5 suspended

• Five police officers in Godda district, Jharkhand, India were suspended after a video of them consuming alcohol and dancing in the police station premises went viral on social media

Five policemen have been suspended for consuming alcohol and dancing in the police station premises in Jharkhand's Godda district after a video of them celebrating Holi went viral on social media. Nathu Singh Meena, Superintendent of Police, Godda, said in a statement that an inquiry into the incident had been ordered and five policemen had been found guilty. Meena suspended them with immediate effect.

The suspended police officers include two ASIs and three constables: Assistant Sub-Inspector Bipin Bihari Rai, Assistant Sub-Inspector Radha Krishna Singh, Constable Satyendra Narayan Singh, Constable Krishna Kumar Singh and Constable Pyare Mohan Singh.

"On 09.03.2023 a video of Mahagama Police Station under Godda District went viral, an investigation was conducted with the Sub Divisional Police Officer, Mahagama, in connection with the said viral video. During the investigation, the following was found: the officials were found guilty, to which they agreed that the undersigned he was suspended and returned to the police station," said a press release issued by the SP's office.

On Thursday, former Jharkhand Chief Minister Babu Lal Marandi shared a screenshot of a viral video apparently posted on Facebook by Constable Satyendra Narayan Singh.

Expressing his disappointment over the incident, Marandi tweeted, “This vulgar and careless sloppy presentation by some policemen in the police station premises. This is the sinister face of the devourers in the garb of the protectors. Jharkhand was indeed put on a powder keg by Hemant, an accidental prince of the Soren Sultanate. The tribal society and country will remember him as Jaichanda. Wake up youth of Jharkhand.”

Visuals from the alleged video showed officers dancing while drinking alcohol in the police station compound. A departmental case has been initiated against all the five policemen in this matter.
